Q&A With Ali Sayed, House Manager
Working with children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities can be challenging; however, as any Lakemary staff member will tell you, it is extremely rewarding. Our staff have a such passion for helping others and they make a tremendous difference in the lives of so many individuals.
Ali Sayed is a House Manager who oversees a residence in Olathe, KS where adults with special needs live. He has worked at Lakemary for six years. We interviewed him to learn more about his role here at Lakemary and why he decided to work with individuals with special needs. Read his remarks below!
Tell us a little bit about what you do.
Ali: “I manage a house called Greenwood where five adults with special needs live. I help plan activities and community outings for the residents, assist with daily activities, transportation, meal prep, and more.”
What inspired you to work with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilites?
“I always wanted to help people, especially individuals most in need.”
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
“I am helping someone in need of help and support everyday.”
What is something people should know about Lakemary and/or the people we serve?
“Lakemary is a great company to work for. Everyone is supportive and understanding, and we receive training related to our job and more annually. We have great supervisors, leaders, and educators, and have the opportunity to provide feedback about the company. The individuals we serve become like our second family once you get to know them.”
What advice would you give others looking to work in this industry?
“If you like helping others, this is a great line of work. You’ll feel proud of the support you provide for others everyday.”
