Q&A With Sally Jenkins, Direct Support Professional
Working with children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities can be challenging; however, as any Lakemary staff member will tell you, it is extremely rewarding. Our staff have a such passion for helping others and they make a tremendous difference in the lives of so many individuals.
Sally Jenkins is a Direct Support Professional who has worked at Lakemary for nine years. We interviewed her to learn more about her role here at Lakemary and why she decided to work with individuals with special needs. Read her remarks below!
Tell us a little bit about what you do.
Sally: “I get to work with an awesome group of individuals. I teach daily living skills and we do community activities, volunteer work, have parties, celebrate successes, and have lots of FUN!”
What inspired you to work with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilites?
“My family has always worked with individuals with special needs. They inspired me to follow in their footsteps.”
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
“Seeing the individual’s smiles when I walk in and hearing “Hi Sally!” no matter what the mood for the day is. It brightens the day!”
What is something people should know about Lakemary and/or the people we serve?
“The people we serve are geniune and make a difference in OUR lives.”
What advice would you give others looking to work in this industry?
“Always keep a kind, compassionate heart.”
