Supporting Children with an Ongoing Connection to School
Lakemary School is a year-round, K-12 accredited school where all teachers are certified in Special Education. Each child benefits from services and supports designed to meet their Individualized Education Plan (IED).
A traditional school day and calendar are followed at Lakemary School. Low-density classrooms each have their own unique focus – students are placed with similar-aged peers with similar functioning levels.
The school’s student body is made up of residents from our PRTF program as well as day students enrolled through their home community.
With over 100 students and growing, Lakemary School is a safe and wonderful environment for children and adolescents with intellectual/developmental disabilities coupled with extreme behaviors and/or psychiatric diagnoses to receive a top-notch education.
Developing Students for Life Beyond Lakemary
Teachers utilize the structured teaching method, which is particularly effective for students with limited verbal ability. Functional learning and social skills development help students for life beyond Lakemary.
Behavior, both positive and negative, is always considered purpose at our school. This factors into the development of each student’s IEP with all professionals that work with the student contributing.
Staff are also trained in Safe Crisis Management (SCM) and a team of non-classroom staff are ready to assist when behaviors arise which have the potential to create an unsafe environment. Learn more through our Emergency Safety Interventions Policy Handbook.
All students have access to individual and/or group therapy in the following areas:
- Adaptive Physical Education
- Outpatient Therapy is available during school hours for qualified students
