STEPS is an intensive, short term (3-6 month) program for individuals with ID/DD and their support teams to target improvement with emotional, behavioral, social, and environmental needs. The STEPS team consists of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), clinical therapist for individual/family therapy, case manager, parent peer suport specialist, and a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). This team works with the referred child or adult and their support teams targeting preventative behavioral and de-escalation skills on a short-term basis so that a plan focused on safety, resources, and follow up services can be created. Additionally, a parent peer support specialist can assist parents and guardians to access community resources.
Steps for STEPS:
Contact can be initiated by a parent/guardian, community agency, school staff, or adult services. Once consent has been obtained, the STEPS case manager will complete an intake assessment to determine if a child or adult is appropriate for services with the STEPS team. Appropriate supports such as individual/family therapy or ABA/RBT Services will be identified and treatment plans and goals will be established.
